OtoReader privacy policy
OtoReader keeps your information on your device. We do not run a server that collects or stores it, we do not sell it, and we show no ads.
What OtoReader keeps, and where
OtoReader stores the books and documents you add, your shelves and categories, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, notes and settings on your device, inside the app's own storage or in folders you choose. We (Michael's Crossing International, LLC) cannot see this information.
Optional cloud sync and backup
If you turn on sync or backup, OtoReader copies your data to your own Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive account, so you can use it on your other devices. You sign in directly with Google or Microsoft; we never see your password. OtoReader asks only for access to the files it creates itself, not your other files. The copy lives in your account, under Google's or Microsoft's privacy policy, and you can delete it at any time. You can also save a plain backup file on your device instead.
Optional features that contact other services
These happen only when you use the feature. The service you contact handles that information under its own privacy policy; we do not receive it.
- Word lookup and translation. When you tap Look up or Translate, the selected word or text is sent to the dictionary or translation website you picked in Settings (for example a dictionary site, Wiktionary, Google Translate or DeepL), which opens in your browser.
- Free-book search and covers. When you search free public-domain books or fetch a missing cover, the book title or author you searched is sent to public catalogues such as Project Gutenberg or Open Library.
- Web search. If you choose to search the web for a book, your search words go to the search engine you chose.
Permissions
- Files and folders you pick: to open and list your books. OtoReader reads only what you choose.
- Internet: only for the optional features listed below.
Purchases
OtoReader is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never receive your card details. Google shares limited order information with us (such as the order number, the item, and your country or region) so we can handle refunds and taxes.
Crash reports
OtoReader contains no analytics or advertising code. If you allow it in your Android settings, Google may share anonymous crash and performance reports with us through Google Play. They do not contain your books, records or other content.
Children
OtoReader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app keeps information only on the device, we hold no children's information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information (for example by email), contact us and we will delete it.
Deleting your data
- On your device: delete items inside the app, or clear the app's storage (Android Settings > Apps > OtoReader > Storage > Clear storage), or uninstall the app.
- In your cloud: delete the OtoReader folder or files in your Google Drive or OneDrive.
- Remove access: disconnect OtoReader in its Settings, or remove it at myaccount.google.com/permissions (Google) or account.live.com/consent/Manage (Microsoft).
- Emails to us: ask us at support@michaelscrossing.com and we will delete your messages.
We have no account for you to delete, because OtoReader does not create one.
Security
Your data is protected by your device's own security. Connections to Google and Microsoft use encryption (HTTPS). Keep your device locked and your cloud accounts protected.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. Important changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
